How to Supercharge your Website Contact Page

How to Supercharge your Website Contact Page

Mar 7, 2024 | Copywriting, Website Copywriting |

The contact page is an essential website page, but it can often be added as an afterthought. It’s not just the place where you whack up a contact form and hope someone gets in touch. It’s a vital part of the user experience and can make or break whether a potential client contacts you.

Here are 5 easy ways to Supercharge Your Website Contact Page and improve usability:

1. Simplify and Streamline the Contact Form:

Keep the contact form as simple and user-friendly as possible. Limit the number of fields to only what’s necessary, such as name, email, and message. This reduces the effort required from users and can increase the likelihood of them completing the form.

Of course, the contact form can also make your business processes easier, so if it’s important for you to pre-qualify potential clients before jumping on a discovery call, you might want to include additional fields in the contact form.

These extra fields can include questions about a client’s budget, when they need a project completed, the name and size of their business (if B2B), and where they heard about you (this question is great for seeing what marketing strategies are working and where your traffic is coming from—such as a Google search, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, word of mouth, etc.).

2. Provide Multiple Contact Options:

Not everyone wants to use a contact form, so include alternative contact methods such as an email address, phone number, or links to social media profiles. This caters to different preferences and can help improve accessibility. I once had a potential client tell me they needed to speak on the phone because they had difficulty writing. It’s essential to accommodate all sorts of personal preferences and disabilities when setting up your contact form.

3. Responsive and Mobile-Friendly Design:

Ensure that your contact page is responsive and easy to navigate on all devices, especially smartphones. With a growing number of users accessing websites via mobile devices, having a mobile-friendly contact page is crucial.

Search engines like Google prioritise mobile-friendly websites in their search results. This means that if your contact page (and website in general) is not optimised for mobile devices, it may rank lower in search results, making it harder for potential clients to find your site.

4. Include a Map and Physical Address (if applicable):

If your business has a physical location, include a map and the street address on the contact page. This is particularly important for local businesses, as it aids in location-based searches. Providing a map and address contributes to a better customer experience. It’s a part of being client-centric, ensuring that anyone who wants to visit or contact your physical location can do so without any hassle.

Including your street address can improve your local search engine optimisation (SEO). When search engines like Google understand your location, they can more effectively list your business in local search results and map listings, making it easier for customers in your area to find you.

5. Include an FAQ Section:

Including a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section (or a link on your contact page to an FAQ page) helps visitors find answers to common questions quickly, potentially reducing the volume of basic enquiries you receive. A well-crafted FAQ section can also demonstrate your knowledge and expertise in your field. It shows that you understand the concerns and needs of your customers, helping to build trust.

An FAQ section can guide potential clients toward the appropriate course of action, whether it’s making a purchase, booking your service, or understanding the best way to contact you for specific queries. It can also educate users about your products or services, helping them to make informed decisions. This is particularly important in complex industries where customers may not be familiar with specific terms or processes.

Supercharging Your Website Contact Page Helps SEO and Website Visitors

Remember, the goal of your contact page is to make it as easy and inviting as possible for people to reach out to you. Ensuring a positive user experience on this page and taking the time to be deliberate and strategic with this page’s content can lead to a better customer experience and potentially more enquiries.

One last tip: remember to include an automated reply when someone fills in your contact form. Your message should tell them when they are likely to hear a reply from your business (whether in a few hours or a few days) and how you will contact them (by phone or email).
